The development of D6 began in 2001, when Mark Parsons was still Creative Director at Maverick. Frustrated with the limitations of email and the internet, particular for certain forms of communication, he began exploring alternative technologies.

The very first d6 product was a live data screensaver which Maverick developed for MWeb. The screensaver provided up-to-the-minute weather forecasts for 50 cities around the country, and proved incredibly popular. It also won a Gold medal at the 2003 Construction New Media Awards.

In 2005 we launched the Mail & Guardian Newsflash, a desktop news alert that is now used by nearly 20,000 people around the world. The company has since built communication and marketing tools for companies such as Fin24, SABMiller, The Times, Mercedes Benz, MTN and the 2010 Communication Partnership.

Since 2009 we have been developing a suite of tools tailored to the needs of specific markets. To facilitate the roll out the new products we recently secured additional private funding. The shareholders include the four directors and the South African General Investment and Trust Company.
